Sams Smile was our first boat. I decided that I wanted to build a boat, while looking at a wooden boat magazine and picked the Rascal by Ken Bassett. Once the drawings arrived I looked them over for a month trying to understand what it all meant. Then I took the plunge and purchased some fancy Mahogany wood for the frames. It took me a year to build and was a great experience. I saw a boat like it at the show in Gravenhurst so I decided to put it in the show. Boy did that change the direction of my life. The club has been a wonderful time for Julie and I. We have traveled all over north America with our boats meeting the most wonderful people.
Sam is built of cold molded plywood on mahogany frames. she is powered by a 2000 4 stroke,60hp Mercury outboard that I changed the cowling on by repainting and using some old decals to make it look a little older. The wooden steering wheel was found in an antique shop just by chance.
