This boat was discovered by Mr. Dwight Boyd of Clarion Boats in an estate sale. According to the family this J.H. Ross Cedar Strip Outboard runabout, hull number 17337 had been in storage for 18-20 years. The engine is a 1958 Evinrude Big Twin, 2 cylinder 35 H.P. outboard. The engine serial number of 25956-50002 has been confirmed by The Maple Leaf Antique Outboard Club as a 1958 Evinrude. In Dwight’s expert opinion no evidence of any restoration work done on the boat could be found other than varnish. The registration no., 8E1449 means it was originally registered with the Coast Guard in Port Hope, Ontario . The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency has incomplete records for this vintage boat. It has been to many boat shows including Toronto Chapter’s Gravenhurst show. It won the ACBS International award in 2003 for “Most Original Best Preserved Boat”. Dixie and I enjoy using this boat on our small lake every summer.
