Century produced 83 of these 20 ft models between 1951 and 1954. Only 12 are known to remain and this one is the only one of seven produced in 1954.
Most were built with a red and white interior but a few used the green/white. Motor and hull numbers match the build records which is also rare.
Based on the hull number, it was the second one produced and it was common for the first one to be used as a promotional show boat around the country. The second one was typically used for promotional photos for brochures and advertising.
The catalog picture is likely this boat given how light the interior was in the black and white photo.
The ultimate thrill for us to have this boat is that my wife Wendy’s father, Jack Brouwer, likely took that photo as he was the account manager/art director for the ad agency that had the Century Boat Company advertising account from 1951 through 1959. We’ll never know for sure but it makes a cool connection if one could prove it!
