India Bay was bought in 1994 on Lake George where she had been restored before coming up to Muskoka to grace the lake.
She was lovingly maintained and always stored in a boathouse for the last 27 years. Last year, before Covid I was excited and looking forward to celebrating India Bay’s 100th Birthday at the ACBA show, but unfortunately it had to be cancelled.
Over the years I’ve had so many enjoyable, memorable times out on the lake in India Bay. One of my special memories was when I was finally able to convince my 96 yr. old mother to take over the helm of India Bay. It was of the same vintage as she was and thought it would be a great memory for both of us. After lots of convincing, I finally got her behind the wheel, at which point she forgot all her fears and was as delighted as a child with a new bicycle. I knew she would love it, as she had always been adventurous and drove a car for more than 80 years. (starting at the age of 12) She had bought her last car at the age of 90. A lovely experience for us to have shared.
Every fall for the past 7 years, I think of selling her, as I think, what am I doing at my age with two wooden boats…..however, every spring, when I take her, I change my mind, and enjoy the experience all over again.
If there is someone out there who is interested in enjoying another 20 yrs. or so you can always look me up and start a new wonderful life with India Bay. She really is a beauty.
Hope everyone has a great time this summer with the 40th. celebration of the Vintage Boat Show.
Enjoy all the beautiful vintage boats!
